Angst or Anxiety: --A state of uneasiness and apprehension, as about future uncertainties. A state of intense apprehension, uncertainty, and fear resulting from the anticipation of a threatening event or situation, often to a degree that the normal physical and psychological functioning of the affected individual is disrupted. Anxiety is not to be confused with Fear. Fear has an object, Anxiety does not. In existentialism, the term refers to general human anxiety at having free will, that is, of being totally responsible for one's actions.

"And no Grand Inquisitor has in readiness such terrible tortues as has anxiety, and no spy knows how to attack more artfully the man he suspects, choosing the instant when he is weakest, nor knows how to lay traps where he will be caught and ensnared, as anxiety knows how, and no sharpwitted judge knows how to interrogate, to examine the accused, as anxiety does, which never lets him escape, neither by diversion nor by noise, neither at work nor at play, neither by day nor by night." --Soren Kierkegaard
